Brazil chicken exports increase January to August

Brazil’s chicken exports for January to August reached 2.784 million tons, a 1.8% increase compared to the same period in 2019.

However, revenue fell by 11.3% to $4.14 billion compared to $4.66 billion in August last year, according to the the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) in a statement on Wednesday (September 9).

Exports to Saudi Arabia rose by 24% in August to 46,700 tons.

UAE also bought more of Brazil chicken, its imports increased by 24% to 25,800 tons.

China stayed Brazil chicken’s top destination. The Republic imported 54,700 tons in August, 46% more compared to the same month in 2019. This increase was in spite of China reporting on August 13 that a sample of frozen Brazil chicken tested positive for COVID-19. Chinese authorities went on to place stricter rules on chicken imports.

Halal makes up around 40% of Brazil’s chicken exports, according to the ABPA.

The country exported 922,200 tons of halal chicken to Arab countries during the first half of 2020, according to ABPA. The biggest importers were Saudi Arabia (204,330 tons), UAE (153,710 tons), Kuwait (64,679 tons), Yemen (52,812 tons) and Qatar (42,478 tons).
