Global Islamic body to allocate $1 mln for artifacts restoration in 30 museums, sets up Islamic Art Museums network


The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) is allocating $1 million for the restoration of collections in 30 museums.

The announcement was made during a webinar on Wednesday (September 30) addressing the use of technology to manage risks and crises facing museums in the Muslim world.

ICESCO falls within the framework of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It is based in Morocco.

It also announced during the webinar the establishment of the Network of Museums of Islamic Art.

“Islamic art is scattered all over the world, countries in the Islamic world need to be open to cooperation with museums in non-Muslim ones,” tweeted ICESCO citing Ech Cherki Dahmali, vice president of the International Council of Museums Regional Alliance of Arab Countries.
