International fashion trade show in Germany to debut modest fashion segment

Modest fashion is making more inroads into the mainstream fashion world. An established international fashion trade show in Germany will for the first time include a modest fashion segment.

Gallery Düsseldorf is an ordering platform that brings together suppliers and buyers in different segments, including contemporary fashion, designer wear, avant garde, shoes and accessories.

For the event at the end of January, the platform will for the first time include modest fashion as a showcase segment, as well as a panel talk to be led by Meriem Lebdiri, the founder of Mannheim-based label Mizaan.

Gallery Düsseldorf says on its website that modest fashion has “won over an entire generation of young, cosmopolitan, social-media-savvy consumers”, citing Dolce & Gabbana, H&M and Uniqlo as some of the global brands that have entered the segment.

Ulrike Kahler, managing director of organising company Igedo, said in a statement that the Gallery’s events will have a focus on “fashion niches with a sociological approach”.

“It is very important to us that we mix commerce with culture and high standards,” said Kahler.

According to Gallery Düsseldorf, the event last year brought in around 6,000 European professional buyers.
