Saudi imports more than 160,000 livestock in first three weeks of April


Saudi Arabia has imported 160,472 livestock since the beginning of April, reported state news agency SPA on Apr 19 citing the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

SPA said the latest shipment was 19,432 heads of sheep from the Sudanese port of Sawakin. 

Saudi authorities import livestock as part of its efforts to ensure food security and maintain price stability. 

The Kingdom imported 233,567 tons of livestock in 2019 worth $731.82 million, according to data from the U.N.'s ITC Trade Map. 82.87% were live sheep and goats.
