Subsidiary of world’s largest animal protein supplier launches plant-based products

Seara Alimentos, a subsidiary of the world’s largest animal protein supplier JBS, has developed plant-based meat alternatives that it is introducing in Dubai at trade fair Gulfood this week.

The Brazilian company’s Incredible Range products include the Incredible Burger made with soy, beets, garlic and onions, the company said in a statement on Feb 15.

Other plant-based meat alternatives have been targeting halal markets, including American firm Impossible, that had its Impossible Burger halal-certified by IFANCA at the end of 2018.

Impossible last month released its plant-derived pork alternative that it told Salaam Gateway it will seek halal certification for.

JBS is a major Brazilian exporter of halal meats. As an indication of its sales to halal markets, four Seara Alimentos and two JBS Aves plants make up the 19 Brazilian establishments currently approved by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority to export poultry to the Kingdom.

The company did not indicate if its plant-based meat alternatives are halal-certified.
