Adelaide’s main halal certifier loses charity status after failing to reveal finances

The Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission has stripped the Adelaide Mosque Islamic Society of South Australia's charity status when it "double faulted" on providing financial statements last year, reported local newspaper The Advertiser.

The mosque submitted its financial statements at the end of the year in an attempt to regain its charity status that allows exemptions from income tax, among other benefits, added The Advertiser.

According to the report, the mosque's financial statements show that 193,340 Australian dollars out of total 300,130 Australian dollars came from halal certification.
