Big in East Asia: Should Korean cosmetics go halal to boost exports?


Halal cosmetics make up only a fraction of South Korea’s $2.75 billion cosmetics exports in 2015, with the sector still not fully appreciating the benefits of halal certification given such strong demand for conventional, or non-halal-cer tified, cosmetics in East Asia. However, with the emergence of companies such as Talent Cosmetics and the substantial export potential to countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, should other Korean cosmetics companies go halal?
