Food delivery service ‘significantly increases’ Jordan's restaurant sector’s sales volume — representatives

Published 28 Mar,2021 via The Jordan Times AMMAN — The Kingdom’s restaurant sector’s sales volume has significantly increased after allowing food delivery services to operate until midnight during the week, according to a sector representative.

In a phone interview with The Jordan Times on Thursday, Omar Awwad, president of the Jordan Association for Restaurants and Sweets Shops Owners, said: “Restaurants’ sales volume increased by 50 per cent, following the government’s decision allowing food delivery during curfew hours.”

Awwad noted that most restaurants either offer their customers free delivery or offer discounts and other deals.

Last Thursday, the number of food orders in a chain restaurant in Amman reached 10,000, according to Awwad.

“We hope that the government would allow restaurants and sweet shops to deliver on Fridays,” Awwad said.

Anas Rateb, a restaurant owner, told The Jordan Times over the phone that since the pandemic started, consumer behaviour has changed due to staying more indoors, therefore allowing delivery services has helped him a lot to stay in business during the current difficult economic situation.

“Things started to get better. The government’s decision has had a positive impact on Jordan’s restaurant sector,” Rateb noted.
