GCC health ministries working to facilitate movement across borders

Published 18 May,2021 via Muscat Daily - The health ministries in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries are working on standardising the procedures that would facilitate the movement of citizens between the states.

As part of the ongoing consultation and joint action amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the undersecretaries of ministries of health in GCC convened on Tuesday their 17th meeting to discuss the latest development of the pandemic.

During the meeting, a number of issues were discussed including standardisation of procedures that would facilitate the movement of citizens between the GCC states.

They also discussed the approval of all kinds of vaccines given in the GCC countries to citizens and residents to facilitate the movement between the GCC countries, in addition to reviewing the requirements for vaccinating pilgrims entering Saudi Arabia.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the requirements of the health passport and studying the gene sequencing test for COVID-19 samples. The committee also looked into standard procurement of vaccines in the event of the need for additional doses of vaccines to be given to the already vaccinated.

During the meeting, it was agreed that the people who have received the two doses of a vaccine, as well as those who have recovered from COVDI-19 and received the first dose would be allowed for trans-border travels across the GCC.

It was also agreed upon to approve the electronic platforms in each country to approve the vaccination status and tests results.
