Halal management division, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) successfully accredited with ISO/IEC 17065: 2012 - Conformity Assessment - Requirements for Bodies Certifying Products, Process and Services


On 10th October 2020, the Halal Management Division, JAKIM was successfully accredited by the Department of Standards Malaysia (DSM), Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to be in compliance with the International Standard ISO/IEC 17065:2012 Conformity Assessment – Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services, in carrying out its role as the competent authority under the laws of Malaysia responsible for certifying and issuing the Halal Malaysia certificate.

The ISO/IEC 17065:2012 is one of the standards developed by the ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (the International Electrotechnical Commission) which formed the specialised system for worldwide standardisation. This International Standard specifies the requirements to be adhered to by certification bodies, the observance of which is intended to ensure that certification bodies operate their certification schemes in a competent, consistent and impartial manner.

As such, this successful accreditation affirms that the current procedures, practices and processes implemented by JAKIM with regards to the Halal Malaysia Certification System comply with international standards and specifications set by ISO.

JAKIM decided to pursue being accredited with the ISO/IEC 17065:2012 to provide added assurance of international calibre to strengthen further the trust and confidence from consumers and industries on the integrity of the Halal Malaysia Certification System, affirming that JAKIM is responsibly carrying out its role in a competent, consistent and impartial manner. Additionally, this accreditation also reflects that the Halal Malaysia Certification System follows globally established best practices for auditing and certifying products and services across different industries. 

This achievement shall be another catalyst to further strengthen and support the growth of the Halal Industry in Malaysia. It is also in line with the pro-active actions taken by the Government to make Malaysia be recognised as the Global Halal Hub.

Furthermore, through this latest milestone charted by JAKIM in obtaining this international accreditation, greater opportunities would be boosted up for products displayed with the HALAL MALAYSIA logo to be globally recognised and sought after in the international market, as well as attracting more domestic and foreign businesses to apply for the Halal Malaysia Certification.
