Holistic traditional medicine awareness highlighted in Bahrain on 6th Ayurveda Day


Published 04 Nov,2021 via bizbahrain - Under the patronage of the Embassy of India, the 6th Ayurveda Day was marked with a symposium on the theme “Ayurveda For Nutrition”. The Chief Guest was the CEO of the National Health Regulatory Authority of Bahrain (NHRA) Dr. Mariam Al Jalahama and the inaugural address was delivered by Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, H.E. Piyush Srivastava.

The Guests of Honour were, the former Undersecretary of Health Dr. Abdulrahman Bu Ali and health entrepreneur and businessman Dr. Varghese Kurian, Chairman of the Al Namal business group.

The programme was arranged under the guidance of Mr. Sekhar S. of Kottakkal Ayurveda, one of Bahrain’s leading Ayurvedic treatment centres with event partners Santhagiri, Kottakkal Ayurveda, Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Health Centre and the Gouranga Ayurvedic Centre.

More than 100 guests attended the event at the Best Western Olive Hotel and listened to an informative talk on how to incorporate Ayurvedic nutritional elements into daily diet from Bahrain resident and well-known Ayurveda and yoga practitioner Ms. Tracey Burrows.

This was followed by a Zoom cookery demo anchored by Kotakkal Arya Vaidya Sala in Kerala, India which has curated a special Ayurvedic menu with Indian Taj Hotel’s award winning Wellness brand JIVA’s Ambassador, Sheric Dorairaj and Chef Karthik. The demo showcased the traditional mung dal pancakes of Andhra Pradesh called “Pesarattu”.

The event was also broadcast online as a Zoom Webinar.

“The global ayurvedic herbs market accounted for $9.57 billion in 2020, and is expected to reach $21.60 billion by 2028, growing at 10.8% from 2021 to 2028,” said Mr. Sekhar, speaking for the organisers, “This ancient and highly effective medical science has seen a major revival in the 20th century with modern research and development and packaging practices. In Bahrain, the NHRA has been encouraging and very supportive of the ayurvedic branch of medical treatment and the Kingdom has a thriving network of licensed Ayurvedic treatment centres and pharmacies.”

The evening was rounded off by a High Tea featuring specific, easy-to-prepare Ayurvedic items such as Cauliflower and Chickpeas Tikki, Sweet Potato Wedges, Avocado and Hummus dips and herbal tea infusions.
