Islamic countries dependence on meat imports
Countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) import 85 percent of all their meat and live animals. These imports are worth $15 billion, two-thirds of which are paid out to Brazil, Australia, India, the U.S. and France. A key implication of such a substantial amount of imported meat coming from non-Islamic countries is that there is a very high need for halal food production certification and logistics integrity.
