ITC heads to Kazan to advance Malaysia's position as Muslim-friendly destination and Umrah hub


In a strategic move to materialise Malaysia’s vision of becoming the regional Umrah Hub for Muslim pilgrims by 2026, Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), prominent agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), is exploring Kazan, Russia, as a potential new Muslim tourist market to tap into, from 14 to 19 May 2024.

Details of ITC’s participation in various engagement aimed at understanding the needs of the Kazan market and fostering collaborations within the Russia tourism industry include:

  • Presentations on the "Development of the Tourism Sector in the Russian Federation, including Halal standards” for policy makers and tour operators and "Successful Experiences in Developing Halal Tourism in Islamic Countries.”
  • 15th International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World Kazan Forum 2024", 15 May 2024, at the Kazan Expo IEC in Kazan, Russia.
  •  The 1st meeting of the Malaysia-Russia Working Group on Tourism Cooperation, 15 May 2024, at the Kazan Expo IEC in Kazan, Russia.
  • Meetings with local Russian travel agents to share about Malaysia’s positioning as an Umrah hub for the region covering Southeast Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, Oceania and of course, East Europe and Russia.
