Jordan's clothing stores pin hopes on Eid Al Adha, summer season to revive sector
Published 05 Jul,2021 via The Jordan Times AMMAN — Clothing stores are offering eid discounts, ramping up their plans to revive the Kingdom’s apparel sector, according to a stakeholder.
“There is still a slump in demand, but sector operators are trying in every way to encourage consumers to buy sale items and boost their overall shopping experience,” Representative of the Clothes, Footwear and Jewellery Sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce Asad Qawasmi told The Jordan Times on Monday,
The prices of apparel products and footwear are within the normal range, according to Qawasmi, who added that the Kingdom’s clothing retailers are prepared to welcome Eid Al Adha and the summer season.
“A lot of stores particularly in shopping malls are offering discounts that reach 40 to 50 per cent,” according to Qawasmi who said that Jordan has witnessed a dramatic drop in purchasing power as most citizens have been financially impacted by the ongoing pandemic.
Jordan’s apparel sector employs 56,000 people in 11,800 facilities across the Kingdom, he stated.
Qawasmi hopes that the global shipping crisis will not affect the prices of winter apparel, noting that import volumes of clothing and footwear are valued at about JD35 million.
Qawasmi said that the government’s decision to give employees their salaries a few days early before eid “is a wise choice”, adding that “this will help revitalise the sector and local economy”.
