Malaysia attracts RM4 billion interest from France

According to a statement from Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), several French companies have expressed interest in investing a combined RM4 billion (1.2 billion Singapore dollars) in Malaysia, following a trade mission led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Paris on July 4.

The investment interest emerged after Anwar and the Malaysian delegation held discussions with representatives from 40 French companies. The targeted sectors include high-tech manufacturing, aerospace, renewable energy, digital economy, sustainable infrastructure, and tourism.

MITI said Malaysia also expects to generate export opportunities worth RM675 million across sectors such as aerospace, automotive, pharmaceuticals, halal products, lifestyle goods, and digital services.

Anwar’s visit to France was part of a broader international engagement. He has since travelled to Rio de Janeiro to attend the BRICS summit, where he is scheduled to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the forum, according to Malaysia’s national news agency Bernama.
