Malaysia’s biggest halal fair MIHAS sales up 5.7 pct boosted by trade exhibitors, business matching
The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) reported a 5.7 percent increase in sales from last week’s Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2019, beating its 3 percent projection.
Sales from Malaysia’s largest halal trade fair, which MATRADE organises annually, hit 1.6 billion Malaysian ringgit ($390 million) compared to 1.5 billion ringgit in 2018, the trade authority said in a media statement on Monday.
The largest chunk of sales came from the exhibition component that contributed 987.7 million ringgit in sales, up 8 percent year-on-year.
The number of companies exhibiting at MIHAS 2019 rose 10.6 percent to 870.
They represented 44 countries, up 37.5 percent from 2018. New countries included Bosnia, Kuwait, Switzerland and Portugal, according to MATRADE.
The business matching programme generated sales of 615.60 million ringgit, up 2.2 percent compared to 2018.
The number of visitors surged 39.03 percent to reach 29,946, from 21,000 in 2018, said MATRADE.
