Malaysia’s Halal Development Corp appoints new chairperson

Malaysia’s Halal Development Corporation (HDC) has appointed Mahmud Abbas as its new chairperson effective July 30.

The agency, under the ministry of economic affairs, drives revenue growth and sustainability of Malaysia’s halal industry in the global market.

HDC’s chairperson has the responsibility to raise Malaysia’s profile as a top producer of halal products and services in the world as well as a preferred destination for halal businesses, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mahmud Abbas was most recently CEO of Knowledge Economic City in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

He was previously managing director and CEO of Central Spectrum, a subsidiary of Selangor state GLC Darul Ehsan Bhd. He was responsible for the public listed company’s turnaround by developing the company's halal arm, said HDC.
