Modest-fashion looks of the month: April 2017

April 2017 fashion trend_denim

Spring has officially sprung, and what better way to prep for the breezy weather than with some funky denim? After all, jeans are every fashionista’s go-to style item for easy and comfortable day looks. And we’ve found some simple yet stylish looks to recreate from our favourite hijabi bloggers. From frayed hems to patched denim, and even the return of the eighties double-denim trend (do you dare?), here are this season’s standout trends you should try.

DOUBLE TROUBLE

A post shared by Saufeeya Goodson (@feeeeya) on

First spotted on Gigi Hadid and then on Saufeeya Goodson, the double-denim trend is making a strong comeback this season. At first, we were hesitant to double up on our denim, but after seeing the results, we can’t even remember why this trend disappeared in the first place.

DRESS IT UP

A post shared by Jasmine Crawford (@team_jass) on

Want to extend the lifespan of your favourite summer dress? Pair your statement dresses with your go-to skinny jeans. Throw on a cardigan for added coverage like Jasmine Crawford did here (as seen here in Verona Collection, available to buy on My Salaam).

FRAY FRAY

A post shared by D I N A T O K I O (@dinatokio) on

The frayed hem is one of this season’s must-haves. Apparently, the more destroyed your jeans are, the cooler they get. Wear your frayed or raw-hem jeans with statement ankle boots like Dina Tokio did here.

EARN YOUR STRIPES

A post shared by Ascia AKF (@ascia_akf) on

The age of boring dark blue Levis is long over, my friend. Patches, prints, and cut outs are this season’s must-haves. Switch up your denim style and opt for a pair of striped jeans like Ascia Akf did here.

FLARE PLAY

A post shared by Leena Ha (@leenalghouti) on

It’s true what they say about Jane Birkin being ahead of her time. Renowned for her signature effortless style, Birkin inspired more than just a few pieces in our wardrobes. The latest? Flare jeans. The sixties iconic jeans trend was spotted on all the hottest street style stars, like Leena Al Ghouti here.

OFF THE CUFF

A post shared by MARIA ALIA (@mariaalia) on

Turn your regular denims into a statement pair by cuffing them up without the second fold. Maria Alia bought her cuffed pair from 7 For All Mankind, but you can easily recreate the look at home.

STOP, CROP AND ROLL

A post shared by Dua'a دعاء (@duaa.h.b) on

Show off your cutest ankle boots or flats with cropped jeans. Afraid to show too much ankle? Wear some cotton tights underneath for extra coverage in case of mishaps. Take a style cue from Dua’a H.B.

COLOUR BLOCK

A post shared by SUMMER ALBARCHA (@summeralbarcha) on

Colour blocking has been around for a few seasons, but it’s making its debut on jeans now, and we love it. Make sure to pair your colour-blocked jeans with a basic top to take it down a notch like Summer AlBarcha did.

PATCH IT UP

A post shared by Liyana Aris (@theliyanaaris) on

Love cartoons? You’ll definitely love this look. Personalise your denim and add some patches. We started with patches on jackets this season and now the trend is spreading south, too. Liyana Aris wore her Disney jeans with a ribbed mustard pullover: what a great choice!

LACE IT UP

A post shared by Ayshah Kamel (@ayshahkamel) on

And saving the best for last, upgrade your denim style with a pair of lace-infused jeans. Ayshah Kamel got hers from Topshop, but creating these babies at home is easier than you think. Just crop an old pair of jeans and sew in the lace detail instead.
