Modest-fashion looks of the month: August 2017
Girls, wherever you might be in the Middle East and Asia, August is just not layer-friendly. Admit it: when it’s 50 degrees outside, even rolling down the window becomes a daunting task.
Lucky for you, then, that we cracked the code for a stress-free summer. Embrace your feminine side and explore these 10 airy looks to flaunt from our favourite fashion bloggers.
(But if you’re off holidaying somewhere easy breezy at the moment, like in the UK, we’re totally envying you).
WHITER THAN WHITE
Summer’s most flattering colour makes the top of our list. The only colour that doesn’t absorb heat, compliments our caramel tans and is airy enough for the Middle East’s scorching weather, we’re waving a white flag this summer, like Saufeeya Goodson here.
THE FUTURE IS NOW
Not a fan of all-white? No problem. A little shine and pops of metallics here and there are better than blinding looks. Take your cue from Leena Al Ghouti.
CHILLIN IN LINEN
Summer’s breezy fabric will never go out of style simply because it’s airy and light. While loose linens are out, relaxed linen-blend fabrics can be your best friend this season. Go for a box-cut dress like Zara did here, and throw in some statement sleeves.
GET SHIRTY
Hitting a wardrobe near you this summer is spring’s favourite shirt dress. While we successfully used the timeless trend last season, there’s another way you can incorporate your spring shirt dress into your summer wardrobe. Just layer with a matching shirt underneath, and you’re ready to make waves.
WHERE HAVE ALL THE FLOWERS GONE?
Well, they’re in this dress. The season’s most predictable trend is here. While we think Summer AlBarcha did a great job styling this head-to-toe floral look, be careful, ladies; it isn’t very flattering for most body types. We definitely recommend spaced-out florals and less heavy prints for the rest of us plain Janes.
LESS IS MORE
Okay, here’s a floral pattern we can all wear. Soha Taha wore and styled her dress with this season’s hottest accessory, the waist belt bag.
EVERYDAY I’M RUFFLIN’
Leena Asad looks like she just popped out of a Zara storefront. That’s a good thing, ladies. Stripes, check; ruffles, check; shirt dress, check. We love everything about this look.
A LINE IN THE SAND
Summer’s second most predictable print: stripes. Ever since nautical stripes hit the runways, we’ve never really gotten rid of the “pattern du jour”. There’s a thin line between cliche and chic, and that line is navy blue: please avoid at all costs! Love red? So does Shahd Batal.
RUSSIAN ROULETTE
This year has been all about scrolling through pictures of these dresses on our feeds. Even Saara Zai says that she has two of these, sarafan-style. We can see why, Saara; we like them, too.
2015 PANTONE WITH A 2017 TWIST
While mixing pastels looks soft and delicate, the mint-and-blush combo is out for this season, ladies. However, lace embellishments, mini bags, and mirror sunglasses are on point. The overall verdict on Nada Nadir’s summer look? Love.
ALL OUT
The first words to come out of our mouths when we saw this look: OH MY GOD! Although this isn’t a look we’d normally wear to the mall or on our way to pick the kids up from school, it sure is a nice outfit to wear when you’re planning on running into your ex. Fatma Husam, we salute (and low-key envy) you for being so extra.
