Modest-fashion looks of the month: February 2017
From faux furs to flares, upgrade your wardrobe with these winter essentials we spotted on Instagram’s style stars.
If there’s anything we all have in common, it’s showing off our unique personal styles on Instagram. Whether we conform to fashion rules and runway trends or make our own as we go, a little fashion-inspiration never hurt anyone.
Here are our top 10 looks this month from our favourite hijabistas.
PATCH 22
Admit it; there’s something about patched-up denim jackets that screams “cool girl” but reminds us of our “teenage dirtbag” high-school years (that’s not always a good thing). The 1995 denim jacket trend is back, and it’s stronger than ever. Want to know how not to abuse the trend like Jawaher Badr did here? Go easy on the patches and please don’t wear it every day (we know it can get addictive).
FLARE BEAR
Fashion recycles itself; that’s nothing new. But the best thing about this is that every couple of years a pair of trousers you once hated will become fashionable again. Enter the flare trend that went viral in the early 2000s and is making a comeback nearly two decades later. Sania Siddiqui is seen here wearing flares with an INAYAH abaya overcoat.
RUFFLE UP
This season, it’s all about statement-making sleeves. Extra-long, ruffled, ballooned and bell-shaped sleeves have been spotted all over the runways. Wear your ruffles up your sleeve like Nuha from @devotedlyyours did here.
BOOTS WEATHER
The best trend this season? Thigh-high boots. Why do you ask? Simply because it’s a great way to warm your legs, create the illusion of layering, mix and match colours and still look chic. Egyptian blogger Mahy Elshamy combined all three in one of her most recent looks.
GINGHAM STYLE
No, we don’t mean the Korean music single. Gingham is back this season and not just for your picnic basket. It’s not the only printed style we’ve seen on the runways this season, but it surely is one of our favourites. Ascia Akf managed to put together two of this season’s most popular prints, gingham and floral, in this look, and you can too.
END QUOTE
Want to know what’s better than novelty tees? Novelty, statement-making abayas. Like the one Sahar Foad wore, looking like a human version of a Tumblr quote.
TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE
Leopards, tigers, and zebras have been spotted all over the four fashion capitals. Prints, that is. Get ready to embrace your spirit animal and find the print that speaks to you the most, like Melanie of Haute Hijab did here.
SUPERSIZE ME
Here’s a great excuse to swaddle yourself up this winter and keep warm (read fab). Blanket scarves are timeless wardrobe pieces that every fashion lover needs. Yellow is Winter 2017’s “it” colour, and this look by Basma K is one to steal.
PUFF DADDY
Meet Paris’ most coveted trend this season: puffy sleeves. We’re talking big, Cyndi Lauper–approved shoulders. The bigger, the better, as they say; however, if you want to lay low, make sure to follow Dina Tokio’s style cue.
