Modest-fashion looks of the month: March 2017
Fashion month is a time for women all around the world to eyeball every catwalk and model strutting down the runway of their favourite labels. Thanks to the “see now/buy now” concept now being endorsed by a number of brands, not only can we fantasise about that latest Ralph Lauren slip dress, we can shop for it, too. Here are some fashion-week inspired modest looks that our favourite hijabi stars sported.
GO FISHIN’
A trend that’s taking over the streets of New York and Milan, fishnet tights have been spotted on street style stars everywhere. Whether they’re paired with slip dresses or cut-out jeans, this is a great catch for winter. Style yours like Aya Almassri did here.
SIR, YES SIR
The best thing about the utilitarian trend that keeps popping up every now and then on the runways of Balmain, Yeezy and Phillip Lim is its diversity and the various styling opportunities that accompany it. Egyptian fashion blogger Farah Emara puts her own spin on the khaki style with this knotted centre top.
DOWN TO BUSINESS
There was a time not so long ago when pantsuits meant strictly business. Well, not anymore. Ever since Hollywood stars showed up in pantsuits on the red carpet, everyone’s been following suit. US-based Muslim fashion blogger Summer Albarcha opted for a power suit and looked fabulous in it.
MIX AND MATCH
Here’s a trend we’re carrying over from the Fall 2016 shows. Prints on prints can be tricky, especially when you’re mixing and matching animal and floral. Designer Adlina Anis, also featured on MySalaam’s Marketplace, found the right formula to wear this trend effortlessly.
FIFTY SHADES OF BLUE
We’ve seen a lot of colours appear on the runway this fashion season; however, if there’s one recurring colour we particularly love, it’s none other than everyone’s favourite hue, blue. From baby blues to cobalt and indigo, wear your tones like Fatma Husam’s Miella outfit, now available on MySalaam.
BUCKLE UP
The waist-trimming belt escapes the gym and jumps into our wardrobes this spring. Call it the “Kardashian effect”, but runway designers have taken note of the celebrity fitness belt and added their personal touch. Wear it like Faten Odeh wore it on the streets of New York during NYFW.
NO STARS, ONLY STRIPES
Stripes are on a streak this season, from banker to beach-umbrella. As seen on runways from Rosie Assouline to Valentino to Altuzarra, this Spring’s stripe trend is sticking around till summer. Hana Tajima, the UK-born fashion designer and blogger, wore her stripes à la Uniqlo from her latest exclusive LifeWear collection with the Japanese fashion brand.
RING A BELL
It’s all about the sleeves, ladies. Slit sleeves, bell sleeves, you name it. Fatema Al Awadhi mixed three of this season’s biggest street style trends: bell sleeves, culottes, and belted coats.
EVERYTHING SOUNDS BETTER IN ‘TRENCH’
We don’t always get to see Hend Alrumaihi’s face, but this Insta Style star has every girl’s fantasy wardrobe. In Doha and London, Hend is launching her eponymous fashion label, which includes this stunning trench coat here, following all the rules of 2017 fashion. Extended, slouchy, and terrific.
