Modest fashion looks of the month: November 2017
Winter is coming, ladies! There’s something about winter fashion that makes us want to roll up our sleeves and dig into the darkest corners of our over-stacked wardrobes to reach out for that fur-lined coat or that basic, but oh-so-chic, turtleneck that you used to wear almost every day during that semester you did in London years ago.
While the weather might not be so “London-ish” at the moment, it sure is getting cold. Here are this month’s picks of insta-worthy outerwear:
BOYFRIEND MATERIAL
Oversized boyfriend jackets are a winter staple. They were in last year, and they’re still a hot item today. Go for boxy vintage cuts like the one Simply Jaserah wore here.
KEEP WARM
Winter’s most favoured material? Wool. We love how TV anchor Zeinab Hammoud styled her wool coat here.
BIKER CHIC
We’ve seen people sport leather jackets in the middle of July because they’re so trendy that they turn around any outfit. Well, leather jacket season is upon us, and if you haven’t bought one in every colour yet, now is the time. Ditch the black and go for camel this season like Soha did.
KILLER DENIM
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: head-to-toe denim is in! Oversized, cropped, ripped or embroidered, Denim jackets turn around any outfit from basic to “street-style star” in an instant. Ascia Akf wore hers from a regional designer and it couldn’t look any better.
ANIMAL INSTINCT
Embrace your wild side. When styled well, an animal print coat could be every fashion lover’s go-to piece. This one is from Haute Hijab and is available on My Salaam here.
INSPECTOR GADGET
The trench coat is making a strong comeback this season (not that it ever went away). Featured on the runways of Burberry (of course), Celine and Maison Margiela, this is a piece we’re expecting to see a lot of this winter.
RING A BELL
There are two things that we love about Aya Massri’s look here. One, it’s a tie-waist coat, which is very flattering if you have a nice hourglass figure. Two, the bell sleeves on this coat. Not only are they statement-making (see Point 3 above), but they’re beautifully embroidered too.
