Musandam in Oman to set up 30 pens to support livestock sector

Published 11 Aug,2021 via Muscat Daily - Thirty livestock pens will be set up to support the farm animals sector in Musandam, according to Abdul Latif al Balushi, director general of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the governorate in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR).

“There are a number of projects in the livestock sector in the governorate that will be implemented with funding from the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund,” Balushi said.

Besides the 30 livestock pens being set up in two phases in Madha, the projects include six poultry sheds being built in the same wilayat, and a manual poultry slaughterhouse and poultry shed in the wilayat of Bakha.

“The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Musandam has also implemented a number of programmes and projects to develop the fisheries sector in the governorate in order to achieve sustainable development in the sector,” Balushi informed.

According to Balushi, a dam in Bakha built at a cost of RO6mn and completed last May, is among the projects to protect the region from floods. With a storage capacity of 1.98mn m3, the dam is 660m in length, 22m in height and spread over 7km.

“An artificial coral reef project, costing RO83,000 set up last June in the wilayat of Dibba aims to create a suitable environment for fish to breed,” Balushi added.
