Nominations open for ICESCO ‘Bayan’ award for creative expression in Arabic 2021

The Islamic World Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ICESCO) announced the opening of applications for the “Bayan” Award for Creative Expression in Arabic 2021. The second edition of the award is part of the initiatives of the Arabic Language Center for non-Arabic speakers.

The Award will be granted to three winners from each age category: youth (USD 2,000) teens (USD 1,500), and children (USD 1,000), read a statement by ICESCO.

The Bayan Prize aims to promote creativity in the Arabic language among non-Arabic speakers, highlight the global character of the language and ensure complementarity between educational and cultural aspects, in addition to the development of language skills through creative writing and speaking.

The competition consists of an oral presentation, in which the student films himself in a creative short video reciting a text written in Arabic (poetry, prose, article, or short story). The video should focus on one of the following topics: Post-pandemic learning; Prevention is better than cure; Cultural diversity; Technology and the future.

Conditions of application include: The student must be from a non-Arab country, and Arabic must not be his native language.

The application must be submitted through the educational establishment where the student is studying. The educational establishment must submit only one work.

The videos should not exceed three minutes in length for the children category, four minutes for the boys and girls category, and five minutes for the youth category.

The video must not have been published previously or nominated for another competition. It should also be accompanied by the text written by the student in addition to the completed application form.

The applications must be submitted to ICESCO by July 30, 2021.

An expert panel will study the submissions and select the winners, who will be announced on the ICESCO website. In addition to monetary prizes, the winners will receive a certificate of merit from ICESCO.
