The ministry has been organising honey markets annually since 2014. Honey sales jumped by 15.7 per cent in 2019 over 2018.

MAFWR recently signed an agreement with Oman-Indian Fertilizer Company with the aim of supporting the honey industry.

Through the agreement, beekeepers will receive support to build a common vision and action plan through a series of participatory multi-stakeholder workshops to encourage sustainable and economic beekeeping.

The agreement aims to address some of the challenges facing the honey industry in line with the Agricultural and Rural Development Strategy 2040, its investment plan, FAO strategic objectives and the provision of capacity building programmes with a focus on the organisational and technical aspects.

The pact also aims to enhance the technical skills of beekeepers and beekeeping-related institutions, low-income families and family projects.
