Passenger arrivals in Oman dropped 75 per cent in 2020


Published 24 Feb,2021 via Muscat Daily - Passengers arriving in Oman dropped 75 per cent in 2020, while departures fell 73 per cent, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

An NCSI report took into account arrivals and departures through all airports till the end of December 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.

The report added that 39,353 flights landed and departed from Muscat, Salalah, Duqm and Sohar airports in 2020 till‪the end of December, carrying a total of ‫4,565,676 passengers (arrival, departure and transit).

The total number of passengers in 2019 at the four airports was 17,750,697.

Muscat International Airport saw the number of passengers fall from 16,021,755 in 2019 to 4,085,499 in 2020, Salalah from 1,366,137 to 386,658, Sohar from 304,345 to 68,714, and Duqm from 58,460 to 24,805.

The report added that the majority of passengers at Muscat International Airport in 2020 were Indian nationals (30,592 departures and 25,404 arrivals), followed by Bangladeshi nationals (15,622 departures and 8,745 arrivals) and Pakistani nationals (9,977 departures and 8,105 arrivals).
