Pilgrims need COVID-19 vaccine to perform haj: Nigerian official


Published 05 Mar,2021 via The Nation - Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs Prince Anofiu Olanrewaju Elegushi has urged the intending pilgrims to take advantage of the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to him, only holders of the vaccine certificate would be allowed entry into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when the Hajj exercise begins.

Prince Elegushi spoke during a meeting with the Ulamah of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the Shamsi Adisa Thomas (SAT) Mosque, Old Secretariat, Ikeja.

The Commissioner urged the pilgrims, Ulamah and other stakeholders not to give room for discouragement from any quarters in taking the vaccine.

He assured that a reputable airline will be engaged for airlifting of the state’s pilgrims, adding that any airline that defaults on the agreement, would be penalised.

Elegushi promised that a befitting accommodation would be provided for pilgrims in Makkah, Madinah and Muna.

He sought the Ulamah support towards giving the pilgrims the best of Hajj experience.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic matters, Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi Jebe, called for harmonious relationship between the Ulamah and schedule officers.

He said their cooperation would further help the state to achieve the much needed success.

In attendance were Executive Secretary, Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Rahman Ishola; Chairman SAT Mosque, Murtala Bamgboshe and Chairman, League of Ulamah, Alhaji Muhsin Ajagbemokeferi.
