Saudi Arabia: AI-backed robots to facilitate pilgrims' fatwa inquiries at Grand Mosque
Saudi Arabia has leveraged artificial intelligence to address visitor queries inside the Grand Mosque and facilitate their journeys.
The Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has deployed a ‘guidance robot’, to assist pilgrims on religious facets, such as the understanding of rituals and fatwas, with the additional feature of simultaneous translation into several languages.
The robot is equipped to offer support in 11 languages, namely Arabic, English, French, Russian, Persian, Turkish, Malay, Urdu, Chinese, Bengali, and Hausa.

The robot operates on four wheels and is equipped with supporting gadgetry such as a smart stopping system for seamless movement; front and bottom cameras for image transmission; high-sound-clarity headphones; and a high-quality microphone. Functioning on a 5Ghz wireless network system, it also hosts a 21-inch touch screen.
The Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, was recently established to supervise the affairs of imams and muezzins of the two holy mosques, as well as to oversee matters related to their religious affairs.
