Saudi film production promoted by development and policy board
Published 27 Jul,2020 via Asharq Alawsat (English Edition) - The Saudi Ministry of Culture announced last week the formation of a board of directors of a film committee chaired by Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, the Minister of Culture, and his deputy Hamed Fayez as vice-chair of the board. Members include Hayfaa bint Abdulrahman al-Mansour, Muhieddine Saleh Kamel, Amanda Neville, Mohammad al-Khariji, and Amer al-Hamoud, with a three-year renewable term. The board will meet four times every year or whenever the need arises.
The board will be responsible for stipulating the necessary decisions to achieve the aims of the committee and will oversee the implementation of its strategies, set relevant policies, and establish internal and technical regulations and procedures.
Under the administration of its CEO engineer Abdullah al-Qahtani, the Film Committee will be responsible for developing the film industry in the Kingdom by recommending a strategy for it that is in line with the national culture strategy and will oversee the implementation of the strategy after it is adopted by the ministry. It will also recommend draft regulations and organizations required by the nature of the committee’s operations.
The committee will work on developing and supporting film production while also promoting Saudi films both locally and internationally, gathering information and statistics related to the committee’s work by establishing a database for the film industry. It will also encourage funding and investment in domains that are related to the committee’s competencies and recommend standards and measures for the film industry. Finally, the committee will also encourage individuals, institutions, and companies to produce and develop the content of the film industry.
The committee will work on holding workshops in domains related to its competencies and will adopt professional training workshops and funding bodies to issue certificates related to training in relevant domains. It will also establish educational programs, provide educational scholarships for talented individuals in coordination with the relevant bodies. Additionally, it will support the protection of intellectual rights and licenses for related activities. The committee will also organize and run local and international conferences, exhibitions, activities, and competitions within its competencies in coordination with the relevant bodies as per established protocols. It will also establish or take part in establishing or joining companies as per set procedures and take part in associations, organizations, and regional and international bodies that represent the Kingdom in regional and international film-related bodies, organizations, and forums.
