Second Philippines national halal conference postponed due to earthquake

The second Philippines national halal conference has been postponed to accommodate repair works at the venue as a result of an earthquake.

The conference originally planned for May 2 and 3 has been rescheduled tentatively for July 3 and 4, a spokesperson for the organiser, the Office of the Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary Abdulgani M. Macatoman, told Salaam Gateway.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck the province of Zambales on April 22 but damage spread to neighbouring Pampanga, which is home to the halal conference venue Quest Hotels and Resorts.

Philippines’ National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on April 29 confirmed 18 deaths as a result of the earthquake.

The Philippines’ national halal logo will be launched during the conference.
