On March 2, 2021, Director-General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) H. E. Yerlan Baidaulet visited the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Republic of Kazakhstan to follow up on previous meetings and discuss the current state of cooperation with the Moroccan Ambassador, H. E. Abdeljalil Saubry.
The Director-General of IOFS expressed appreciation to the government of the esteemed member state of the Kingdom of Morocco for signing the IOFS Statute on February 25, 2021 in Jeddah. This makes the Kingdom of Morocco the 35th member state of the Islamic Organization for Food Security.
Agriculture plays a crucial role in the economy of Morocco, and accounts for nearly 38% of the population's employment and 17% of GDP. Morocco is one of the top exporters of phosphate fertilizers, citrus fruits, olive oil, sugar, fish and processed agricultural products.
As an agricultural platform with promising potential, IOFS would give more opportunities to explore and promote the mutually beneficial cooperation between Morocco and the OIC/IOFS countries, notably through the implementation of the OIC STI Agenda programmes. Moreover, the membership at IOFS would strengthen Morocco's relationship with the IOFS hosting country, Kazakhstan.
The Ambassador noted the importance of formal commemoration of the event and thanked the Director-General for his efforts of promoting the IOFS. He assured that Morocco would actively interact with the organization, and utilize its extensive experience in agriculture to benefit IOFS. Following the meeting, the parties expressed hope to continue their fruitful cooperation.
The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) is an international organization that monitors and manages the state of food security in the member states. IOFS is a specialized institution of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), based in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
