The 'TALES of Marawi' project to revitalize town, shore up economy

A new initiative has been launched to empower the Maranao people, one of the largest Muslim-centric groups in the Philippines.

The 66 million pesos worth "TALES of Marawi" endeavor aims to foster homegrown halal entrepreneurship and bring prosperity to the city of Marawi, whose people were forced to flee their homes in the wake of the 2017 siege. Besides massive displacement, the conflict caused loss of lives and livelihood.

The project will be implemented from August 2023 until July 2024 as part of the Task Form Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Phase 2 project, Philippine Information Agency reported. The project is a collaborative effort between the country's Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Bangsamoro government's Ministry of Trade, Investment, and Tourism (BARMM-MTIT).

MTIT minister Abuamri Taddik said the project proposes a comprehensive intervention for the economic revitalization of Marawi.

Under this government-backed initiative, training sessions will reportedly be provided to budding entrepreneurs, and the products of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will be actively promoted. Over 100 MSMEs are poised to reap the benefits of this program, owed to various capacity-building initiatives.

The project offers services to its beneficiaries, including livelihood support, entrepreneurship guidance, investment facilitation, financial literacy, marketing access, and other essential elements for establishing and sustaining businesses effectively.
