Tourism Ministry opens office in China to promote Oman

Published 03 Aug,2021 via Muscat Daily - The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) opened a representative office in China on Sunday to attract foreign tourists by promoting Oman tourism in the east Asian country.

‘The tourism representative office opened on August 1, 2021, and will operate till July 31, 2022, subject to renewal,’ the MHT said in a statement.

‘The initiative aims to develop and renew the marketing plans and programmes implemented by the ministry,’ it added.

The newly opened office will promote Oman and will give it prominence at various important tourism events in China to attract tourists to the sultanate.

‘The opening of the office also aims to consolidate the relationship between local partners (companies and hotels) and their counterparts in the Chinese market,’ the MHT stated.

According to the ministry’s statistics, 219,717 tourists from China visited the sultanate in the last five years.

There was a significant increase - 141 per cent – in the number of visitors from China to Oman between 2018 and 2019, the ministry said.

However, there was a 75.1 per cent drop in tourists to Oman in 2020 compared to 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sultanate welcomed 3,506,441 tourists in 2019, which was 8.2 per cent more than the 2018 figure of 3,241,757 and 75.1 per cent less than the number that visited in 2020 - 874,444 tourists.

The MHT is currently working to establish numerous projects to attract tourists to achieve the strategic goals of Oman Vision 2040.
