UK’s M&S Food launches own-brand halal-certified prepared meals

M&S Food is launching its own-brand halal-certified prepared meals.

The British retailer said the prepared meals will be launched on November 6 in the UK as well as in selected stores overseas.

“The new halal prepared meal range will help M&S deliver a better localised offer in 36 M&S Food stores across the UK and will also be sold by M&S’ international franchise partner Al-Futtaim in markets including Singapore and Dubai,” said the company in a statement on Wednesday (October 30).

The meals are halal-certified by UK-based Halal Food Authority.

M&S Food managing director Stuart Machin said the company is changing to become more relevant, more often to families across Britain.

M&S started stocking a range of Shazans branded halal chicken products in selected stores in May.

It said it saw strong sales response from local customers, which informed its investment in its own-brand meals.

All the meals are chicken-based, including chicken arrabbiata, chicken and roasted mushroom tagliatelle, chicken jalfrezi and rice, and chicken tikka masala and rice.
