50% increase in permissible hotel occupancy across Egypt
Published 13 Feb,2021 via Daily News Egypt - The “Enjoy your winter in Egypt” initiative has led to a 50% increase in permissible occupancy rates at all hotels across Egypt during the current period.
This significant increase was driven by the commitment to hygiene and safety regulations applied in all hotel and tourism establishments, museums and archaeological sites.
The remarks were made by Abdel Fattah Al-Assi, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Hotel Facilities and Tourist Establishments, adding that the initiative has so far succeeded in achieving its goals.
Al-Assi said that these goals include reviving domestic tourism, and providing domestic and foreign visitors with the opportunity to visit Egyptian tourist cities at reasonable prices.
The initiative also aims to help hotels continue functioning during a challenging period, caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and increase the occupancy rates within the established capacity.
He explained that the initiative has been extremely positive in promoting Egyptian tourism, as hotels received guests according to the planned capacity.
Despite the challenges of keeping visitors safe during a pandemic, the success has shown that Egyptian hotel and tourism facilities are safe, and that all precautionary and preventive measures are applied. It ensures that Egypt has again proven itself as a favourable destination to receive tourists from across the world.
The “Enjoy your winter in Egypt” campaign was launched by the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities, and Civil Aviation, in cooperation with the Egyptian Hotel Association (EHA) to stimulate domestic tourism.
It commenced on 15 January, and will run until 28 February to stimulate domestic tourism and encourage Egyptians and foreigners to visit tourist and archaeological sites across the country.
The campaign highlights the enjoyment that can be had from Egypt’s picturesque nature and excellent weather, whilst encouraging visits to archaeological sites to learn about the Ancient Egyptian civilisation.
This initiative has issued a reduction on the prices of domestic air tickets for Egyptians and foreigners to Egypt’s tourism hotspots of Luxor, Aswan, Sharm El-Sheikh, Taba, Hurghada and Marsa Alam.
This ensures that tickets can be purchased at a flat rate ranging between EGP 1,500 and EGP 2,000 including taxes. The campaign comes in addition to reducing prices at three-, four-, and five-star hotels participating in the initiative, and includes taxes, services and meals.
Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities has also granted a 50% reduction on the prices of tickets for Egyptians visiting archaeological areas and museums in Qena, Luxor, and Aswan governorates.
