Egypt is keen to cooperate with France in agricultural sector

Published 03 Oct,2021 via Daily News Egypt - The Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali El-Moselhy affirmed, on Saturday, Egypt’s keenness to cooperate with France in the field of agriculture, and to benefit from the French expertise in agricultural cooperatives and fisheries development.

During a meeting with his French counterpart Julien Denormandie, El-Moselhy said that the agricultural sector is very important for Egypt, as one of the main sources of income for a large segment of the Egyptian people.

El-Moselhy added that the technological development in the agricultural sector globally would contribute to increasing productivity, which is necessary to ensure the steadiness of the supply chain.

Moreover, the French Minister welcomed cooperation with Egypt in the field of fisheries development and aquaculture, asserting that France has successful experiences in the production of fish farms.

Denormandie added that the vast majority of farmers join agricultural cooperatives, to increase their bargaining power with industrial and logistical entities, increase cooperation among members themselves, exchange experiences, and share costs of technology used.

He stressed the necessity of providing advanced scientific applications through cooperatives, in light of the role of cooperatives in spreading knowledge and reaching all their members.

On the other hand, the French minister demanded a discussion of the new controls imposed on the import of halal meat and dairy products from the European Union, and the removal of obstacles, noting that the EU mission in Cairo is coordinating with European embassies to address this matter with the Egyptian authorities.
